Waiting for the “Right Time”? Why So Many Women Delay the Dreams on Their Heart
For a long time, I had this picture in my mind of the woman I wanted to become.
She was confident.
She showed up for the life God placed on her heart.
She created things. She wrote. She shared her ideas on Instagram. She inspired other women.
She wasn’t waiting for permission to start building the life she felt called to.
And the funny thing was… I could see her so clearly.
I could picture the life she was living and even feel it sometimes.
The projects she was working on.
The mornings she spent writing.
The way she showed up for her dreams with courage and excitement.
But when it came to actually becoming that version of myself?
I kept hesitating… and to be completely honest I still do.
For a long time, my life has been lived somewhere between dreaming about the future and actually stepping into it.
And the more I talk to women, the more I realize how common that feeling is.
When You Know the Life You Want… But Keep Waiting
Maybe you know this feeling too.
You have dreams that won’t leave you alone.
You know your vision board like the back of your hand.
Your mind and your heart are filled with thoughts and ideas that aren’t just vague ideas, but things you genuinely feel pulled toward.
Maybe it’s starting a blog.
Launching a business.
Changing careers.
Becoming healthier.
Creating something meaningful.
You can imagine how it would feel.
You picture the routines, the work, the growth, the impact.
But instead of starting, you keep telling yourself some version of the same thing:
I’ll start when I feel more ready.
When life is less busy.
When you have more confidence.
When you have more clarity.
And somehow that “right time” keeps moving further away.
This has been my pattern for the past few years…. yes, YEARS.
Why So Many Women Stay in the Dreaming Phase
The truth is, a lot of us aren’t stuck because we don’t have dreams or clear visions.
We’re stuck because those dreams matter to us. So much.
And when something matters, the possibility of failing suddenly feels a lot bigger and a lot scarier.
So we do what feels safer.
We overthink.
We compare ourselves to people who seem further ahead.
We wonder if we’re talented enough or disciplined enough.
Or we convince ourselves that we need more preparation before we begin.
And then we stay stuck in the same place and never really move toward building the life we can’t stop dreaming of.
And I say that with a lot of compassion, because I’ve lived there too.
The Part No One Tells You About Building a Life
There were seasons in my life where I could clearly picture the life I wanted.
I knew I wanted to write.
I knew I wanted to build something meaningful.
I knew I wanted to create a space that encouraged women to pursue the life God placed inside them.
But actually showing up for that vision felt so intimidating it became one of the scariest feelings ever.
It’s one thing to imagine the life.
It’s another thing to start sharing your work, your ideas, and your heart with the world.
To take the photos.
To write the posts.
To build something from scratch.
That kind of vulnerability can feel so uncomfortable at first.
But what I’ve slowly started realizing is that the life you want is never going to appear all at once.
It’s built over time.
Through small acts of courage.
Through showing up before you feel fully confident.
Through starting while things are still imperfect.
Building your dream life is truly a “one step at a time” process.
Confidence Usually Comes After You Begin
One of the biggest misconceptions about pursuing your dreams is the idea that confidence comes first.
Most of the time, it doesn’t.
Confidence usually shows up after you start taking action.
After you try something.
After you see that you’re capable of learning, improving, and growing.
Little by little, you begin to trust yourself more.
And suddenly the dream that once felt intimidating starts to feel possible.
The confidence doesn’t come from having everything perfect and figured out… it comes because you’ve started moving.
If You’ve Been Waiting, Start Here
If there’s something you’ve been thinking about for a long time, it might be worth asking yourself one simple question:
What is one small step I could take this week?
Just one step.
Write the first page.
Take the picture.
Share the idea.
Book the class.
Start the routine.
Taking small steps creates momentum, and momentum has a way of changing everything.
The Dreams That Stay With You Are Usually There for a Reason
I’ve come to believe that the dreams that stay with us over time usually aren’t random.
They are tied to our purpose and our calling.
They’re invitations from God.
Invitations to grow.
To step out in faith.
To finally become the kind of person capable of living the life we imagine.
I know we tell ourselves this all of the time, but I really just want to remind you that you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin.
You don’t need the perfect plan or the perfect aesthetic.
You just need the willingness to start.
Because the truth is, the life you want isn’t going to be built in one big moment.
It’s built in the small decisions you make to show up, again and again, for the dreams that refuse to leave your heart.
