20 Small Things That Make Everyday Life Better
There’s a moment in adulthood when we realize that life isn’t just about the big milestones we spend years waiting for.
The new job.
The engagement.
The apartment.
The trip.
The big breakthrough moment where everything finally feels like it’s coming together.
Those things are beautiful when they happen. But the truth is, most of our lives are pretty mundane.
Coffee before work.
Running errands.
Cleaning the kitchen.
Answering text messages.
Meeting a friend for dinner.
Folding laundry while a podcast plays in the background.
Lately, I started realizing that life feels so much better when you learn how to enjoy the little things that fill your days.
We don’t have to pretend that life is perfect, but we can start creating moments that make it feel fuller, calmer, and more meaningful.
Here are a few little things that have made my everyday life feel noticeably better, so I wanted to share them with you too. <3
1. Romanticizing Your Morning Coffee
Instead of rushing through it, slow down. Light a candle. Sit by a window. Open your Bible or journal for a few minutes before the day starts.
2. Getting dressed even when you don’t “have to”
Putting on a cute outfit even if you’re just running errands or working from home can completely change your mood.
3. Keeping your space clean and cozy
Fresh sheets, a tidy kitchen, and a candle burning in the evening make home feel like a place you actually want to spend time in.
4. Taking a walk outside
It sounds simple, but getting fresh air can reset your entire mood.
5. Calling a friend instead of texting
Sometimes hearing someone’s voice instantly lifts your mood in a way texting never does. Or you can send a voice note! <3
6. Having a go-to playlist for different moods
Morning coffee music.
Driving music.
Cleaning music.
The right playlist makes everyday routines feel more enjoyable.
7. Going to Trader Joe’s just because
Wandering through the aisles, picking up a new snack, or grabbing fresh flowers for your kitchen counter is a tiny joy that makes the week feel better.
8. Writing down things you're grateful for
Even just three things at the end of the day can shift your perspective of life.
9. Spending a few quiet minutes with God
It doesn’t have to be long. A short prayer, a few verses, or a moment of stillness can help you feel grounded for the entire day.
10. Cooking a simple meal you love
Not every meal needs to be complicated. Sometimes something easy and comforting is exactly what you need. I’ve been loving eating the same meals on repeat.
11. Taking care of your body
Going to the gym, stretching, or taking a walk reminds you that your body deserves care and you are showing up for yourself in healthy ways.
12. Letting yourself enjoy little luxuries
A good candle.
A cozy blanket.
Your favorite coffee.
Small things can bring a lot of joy to the mundane.
13. Leaving your phone in another room for a while
It’s amazing how much calmer your mind feels when you’re not constantly checking Instagram. Life feels like a whole different world without it.
14. Opening the windows when the weather is nice
Fresh air instantly makes a space feel lighter.
15. Doing something creative
Writing, taking photos, decorating, or cooking something new can wake up parts of your mind that daily routines don’t always connect you to.
16. Taking a little extra time getting ready
A simple makeup routine, doing your hair, or putting on a perfume you love can make the day feel more “put together.”
17. Lighting a candle in the evening
There’s something I love about lighting candles in the evening and the way it makes me feel like the day is winding down.
18. Saying yes to social moments (this can be hard for me at times)
A quick coffee date.
Dinner with a friend.
Even a walk together.
These are the moments that often end up meaning the most.
19. Reminding yourself that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be good
So much peace comes when you stop waiting for everything to fall into place before letting yourself enjoy life.
20. Believing that God is present in the ordinary moments
Some of the most meaningful parts of life happen in everyday moments.
The point of life isn’t just living for the big things.
But the small moments where you pause, breathe, and realize life is happening right now.
The truth is, a beautiful life isn’t built by just focusing on the big things.
It’s built in small, everyday choices.
A slow morning.
A walk outside.
Dinner at home with someone you love.
A moment with God before the day begins.
Those things might seem small, but over time they add up and start to make life feel really sweet and special.
And when you start paying attention to them, everyday life begins to feel a lot more magical.
