How to Love Your Life Again (No Matter Where You Are)

Have you ever looked around and thought, “This isn’t where I thought I’d be by now?”

Maybe your days feel like a blur of responsibilities and you feel stretched thin. Maybe you’re waiting for something to change. A new job, a new relationship, or a new city before you finally feel like you can love your life again.

But what if it’s possible to love your life right here, right now?
Not when everything is perfect. Not when you’ve finally “made it” and everything looks the way you want it to. But in this exact season, the messy, in-between one you’re already living in.

When Life Looks Different Than You Imagined

Jack and I are back in Philadelphia, and to be honest, this is the last place we thought we’d be.

We always pictured a life somewhere warm and beautiful, chasing sunsets forever. We even said out loud, more times than I can count, that we would never live in Philly.

In our minds, the dream was somewhere like Miami or Hawaii, a place full of life and energy where it feels like paradise no matter the season.

But God had other plans.

And even though we both have days where we struggle to accept that Philly is home for now, we’re learning to find joy in the journey. We keep coming back to the truth that God has good plans and that He knows the desires of our hearts even better than we do.

So, we’re making the most of our life here. I’ve been lighting candles, decorating for the holidays, soaking up the fall weather on my walks, embracing the coziness of having seasons again, and appreciating how close we are to both of our families.

It’s fulfilling in ways living in Miami wasn’t.

When I slow down and focus on the goodness right here, I start to love my life again, even if I’m not in the perfect environment I thought I wanted.

Living in the mystery of what God is doing has been its own kind of adventure. We’re joyfully anticipating miracles and open doors while learning that your life doesn’t start when things look the way you imagined.

It starts when you decide to show up joyfully for the one you already have.

Learning to Love Your Life Again

Sharing this feels important because I know what it’s like to feel stuck in a season you didn’t expect, and to look around and wonder if life will ever feel exciting or beautiful again.

But I’ve been learning that loving your life again doesn’t happen when everything changes around you. It happens when something shifts within you.

So if you’re in a season that feels confusing, slow, or not quite what you pictured, here’s what’s been helping me fall back in love with my life (and I hope it helps you, too).

1. Romanticize the little things again.

Somewhere along the way, we stop noticing the things that make life feel like life. The smell of coffee in the morning, sunlight streaming through the windows, the way the air smells before it rains.

Start small. Light a candle before you open your laptop. Go on a walk without your phone. Make your bed, not because you have to, but because it reminds you that you care again.

You don’t need a new life to feel new. Sometimes, you just need to be intentional with the one you already have.

2. Let go of the timeline.

The pressure to “be somewhere” by a certain age or stage can steal so much joy from the present. But life doesn’t always unfold the way we think it should, and that’s not failure, that’s faith.

God’s timing is rarely ours, but it’s always better. Every detour has purpose. Every delay has meaning.

When you stop comparing your pace to someone else’s, you create room to actually enjoy your own journey.

3. Reconnect with what makes you feel alive.

Sometimes, loving your life again means remembering what you used to love.

What did you enjoy before life got so busy? Writing? Painting? Baking? Spending time outside?
Do one thing this week that brings you back to yourself, even if it’s for ten minutes.

The more you fill your life with the things that light you up, the more grateful you’ll feel to be living it.

4. Spend time with God.

When life feels heavy, it’s easy to look for fulfillment everywhere else: in relationships, success, or social media validation. But true joy always starts with Him.

Spend time in prayer. Open your Bible. Sit in stillness and talk to God about how you’ve been feeling. Be honest. He already knows what’s on your heart.

You’ll start to see that the more time you spend with Him, the lighter life feels, even when nothing around you has changed.

5. Believe that where you are is not where you’ll stay.

It’s okay if your life doesn’t look the way you thought it would right now. It’s okay if you’re still figuring it out.

You’re not behind. You’re not lost or purposeless. Your life isn’t being wasted. You’re on the journey of becoming everything you were created to be.

And one day, you’ll look back on this season and realize it was producing something beautiful in you.

So take a deep breath. Be still. Look around. Romanticize life again.
There’s still so much to love and so much more to come.

You don’t have to wait for a better season to love your life again.
You can love it now, because God’s already in it.

Praying for you always,

Laura <3
